A month ago, I posted this about the Presidential Election related food appearing on menus worldwide. Well folks, we have the Poll Results in this afternoon. It looks like the Obamalette wins by a landslide over the McCainlette. Apparently, a mozzarella, basil, tomato, onions and sausage omelette topped with parmesean cheese is preferred greater than a honey bbg chicken, cilantro, peppers and onion omelette topped with scallions and jack cheddar cheese.

I can’t say as I’ve ever eaten a barbeque omelette before. But I did make omelettes a new way last week for my mom’s Birthday Brunch Buffet. An older lady that I met at the pool this past summer told me about this method telling me how perfect it was for one person or even a crowd of people; so everyone could make their own omelette their own way. So I tried it, bravely experimenting on my mom’s birthday. I kept my fingers crossed that Jean (that’s the older lady) wouldn’t lead me astray. And by golly, she didn’t. It works like a champ! Which helps me out tremendously because MY omelettes always turn into scrambled eggs before all is said and done.

She called it a Ziploc Omelette. It’s not nearly as fancy a name as an Obamalette or a McCainlette, but it works just the same. You just gather all the ingredients you want to add to your omelette. You can do a buffet style like I did and have a slew of different ingredients, or you can just keep it simple. Whatever floats your boat.

First, fill a large pot with water and heat till boiling. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix two eggs with a dab of milk and salt and pepper like you would with any other omelette. Then add whatever your heart desires. I added cayenne pepper, sausage, onions and cheese. Just a little of each. Mix it up and pour it into a ziploc baggie. Seal the baggie very carefully and place it in the pot of boiling water. Boil for 15 minutes and you have a perfect omelette.

Serve it along side of some grits, sausage, toast or a biscuit and you’ve got a hearty breakfast fit for a mom’s birthday brunch. And you all know. . . if it’s good enough for mom. . . .
