Over here on the East Coast, it has been an unusually HOT June – and dry.  While the middle of the country has been inundated with rain and floods, we’re dry as a bone.  While we have the wildfires in the Great Dismal Swamp (just down the road from me) and my flowers and tomatoes and peppers are shriveling before my eyes – all in desperate need of a good soaking, we’ve had not one drop.  Well my friends, we GOT our good soaking.  On 4th of July weekend.  I’m sure there were a few backyard bar-b-ques taken indoors and a few beach goers disappointed, but we seriously needed this rain.  Even “I” couldn’t be upset by the not so blue skies.

After taking my mother out to lunch and spending a little time with her, I, of course, went to the pool.  Where else would I be. . . even with the not so blue skies?  I am known as the neighborhood diehard.  I was playing with my camera desperate to learn all these crazy settings and such.

Wait – does that look like a puppy running through the sky?

These things kept rolling in taking my sun.  I waited it out keeping my fingers crossed that it would just blow over.

Nope, it DID. NOT. BLOW. OVER.  It came down like cats and dogs.  Maybe that WAS a puppy in the sky.   Cuz shortly after I saw him, this is what came down.  FAT rain.  Yes, I was STILL at the pool.  I just moved my chair, my camera, my cold beer underneath the cabana thingie.  There I sat still fooling with my camera.

At one point, I had to move into the bathroom cuz the wind got a little crazy and I had to protect my camera.  But that passed pretty quickly and I resumed my position.

A half hour or so later and it had all stopped.  Then a half hour or so later and the sun was back out. . . briefly.  That’s when I saw storm number two coming in.  I stayed still until my usual time (when my belly gets hungry).  I certainly didn’t have to go home and water my flowers (standard operating procedure).

Desperately happy flower.
