And I’m not talking food when I say Grease.
I have a confession to make. Now don’t be too alarmed. . . it’s not that bad. But it will demonstrate my weirdo side. I confess that I really like Daytime TV. I actually like Daytime TV more than Primetime TV, except when it comes to shows like American Idol, Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. Those I like alot too. So thank goodness for DVR’s and Tivo’s (I have both). All of my televisions are covered and set to record my daytime shows.
I start my morning with Good Morning America with Diane, Robin, Chris and Sam. I get about 45 minutes into it and have to leave. If they have something interesting lined up, I’ll continue recording it. But if it’s the same old rhetoric, I’ll stop it.
Then I have it set to record Rachael Ray. I most times fast-forward through a lot of her show, but I’m always game to at least check out what crazy subject or celebrity she’ll be talking about. Plus, she has food. That’s always an attraction for me.
Next I record The View. Sometimes these ladies get on my nerves. . . especially that little Elizabeth Hasselback. She’s got a mouth on her. But for the most part, they’re pretty funny. They discuss a lot of political topics, so I catch up on the latest and greatest happenings in the Presidential race with them. They have the highlights and their own personal comments and opinions, which get a little heated at times. I keep waiting for fists to fly.
Next is my CBS Soap lineup. The Young and The Restless is a MUST. I’ve been watching this show for 34 years. I still remember when David Hasselhoff when he was Dr Snapper Foster. Creepy, huh? But he was the shizet back in the day. Now he just just grosses me out. You’re not the shizet anymore David! Let it go!
And I always record Oprah. There are a few of her shows that I can’t sit through, but for the most part, I enjoy most of her topics. There’s usually something that’ll get me to thinking.
That’s it. That’s my daytime lineup. Since I have every TV set to record them all, I can have any of these on at any given time while I go about doing whatever I have to do. But sometimes, something on one of these shows will grab me. Yesterday, I was putsing around my kitchen making dinner when I heard Rachael Ray announce Olivia Newton John who was appearing in order to promote her Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and new CD. Me being me poked my head around to see how she’s held up after all these years. Hell, the woman is 60 years old! Can you believe it? She looks pretty dang good too. I went back to putsing and then I heard it. . . . they played a clip from the original Grease with her and John Travolta.
Can I tell you that that song totally took me back to my senior year at Meridian High School – 1978? Damn I’m OLD!
I was sitting in the car with my friends and my friend, Jimmy and I were singing our hearts out. I believe he’s the ONLY person I’ve ever sang in front of. Cuz believe me. . . I can’t hold a tune in a bucket. But for a few minutes, I was Olivia Newton John. I LOVED THAT MOVIE!!!
There are certain things in life that can totally transcend time. Music and Food being at the top of this list. I write alot about food. Certain foods I eat or read about take me back to specific times in my life. . . like my Peanut Butter Cornflake Bars for instance. They were the most delicious treat when I was a kid. I feel like I’m seven years old everytime I eat one.
And music. Grease took me back 30 years to when I was young and innocent . . . with not a wrinkle in sight. Styx will do that too. Foghat, Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Supertramp. Aaaahh, those were the days.
What food or song takes you back in time?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI agree about Y&R – my favorite soap out there! I like Gloria a lot but think what she’s doing to Kay is just wrong, poor lady
On another note, I think Gloria and River should get back together.
My Momma’s oatmeal cookies (hated them when I was a kid, but not because they tasted bad but because we couldn’t afford Nestle’s to make Toll House like my other friends and when she sent cookies to school *back when you could make cookies and send them to school* they were her oatmeal cookies and everyone else brought stupid toll house cookies) make me so happy now I could attempt cartwheels in the yard. Whew, that was a long way to go to say my Momma’s oatmeal cookies take me back, huh?
As for music, The Eagles, Witchy Woman, takes me back to a road trip over to Panama City Beach with my Daddy and I was singing along and we were in his VW van.
Every now and again, I’ll catch a strange whiff of cinnamon and other spices that takes me STRAIGHT back to my Aunt’s house at Christmas. Not every cinnamony smelling thing does that, just a wierd combo of holiday spices.
I also loved Grease . . . but I was a little bit younger than high school. I still belted out Hopelessly Devoted and There Are Worse Things I Could Do (my favorite song from the movie STILL).
Too funny because I was saying to myself UH HUH after each one.. I don’t record them anymore because I am home now but before I was recording a LOT.. the weekends were full of catching up and FF through stuff. I love the opinions on the VIEW and that banter from LIZ TO JOY TO WHOOPI wellllllll I love love that. I love to see Liz get put in here place. She is such a know it all. anyway… I used to tape GH some of the ABC shows.. and now I dont.
Love Rachael’s cooking stuff which is usually at the end of her shows. OPRAH is a must see most days and now she has this live show on FRI where you get up with the topics of the week. I really like that and DR> OZ.
FOODS back in TIME.. whoa.. I am so old.. I remember my mother’s fried chicken in the electric skillet us kids would fight over the cracklin’s.. hunks of flour and egg fried up crispy. ACKKK now days I frown on that.. As for cookies Mom got a recipe from the south fora rolled molasses cookie and boy those are really good. I never make them though… well almost never. I think BEATLES music of any kind takes me back the most. I hear one of their songs and I know exactly what age I was when it first came out.
take care..
My 2nd grader’s music teacher taught them how to hand jive. Why didn’t MY music teachers do cool stuff like that? We only got to sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
I found you through PW… I’m in VA too.
I love your site!
