While it is true that I own over a hundred cookbooks, my food freakishness doesn’t stop there. No. I have an obsession with food blogs. I look for recipes. I look for food related items. I look for food gadgets. I look for information about food in general. You know. . . the latest and greatest news about food. I think I may see a 12 Step Program in my future if I can’t get this under control.

In the meantime, those of you that stumble here thinking that I’m going to be talking about fun Jeep trips to the beach or muddin’ trips or rock climbing adventures, sorry about that. Here at Yellow Jeep Blonde, it’s mostly about FOOD, with some humor thrown in for good measure here and there, and boring stories about my children and holidays and pretty much anything else that trips my trigger.

Lately, I’ve been wanting to talk to you guys and get your take on food, ie. the sort of foods that YOU like to eat, the sort of recipes you’d like to see, that sort of thing. But other than straight-up begging for comments (which I’m not above doing, by the way), I wasn’t certain how to go about it. . . . until I found this at Slashfood which lead me to Omnivore’s Hundred, a list of 100 “must-try” foods written by a British food blogger. I found both lists very interesting and I thought it would be a great way for you let me know what YOU think about food. What you like and don’t like.

On the British list, I have to be honest. . . there was a lot on there that I’d never even heard of. It could be that I just don’t know the name but maybe know the dish. Not really sure on that one. I could have looked them up on Wikipedia, but there were too many to fool with.
On the American list, it was geared more toward specific regional specialties, so if you haven’t traveled much, then you’d be out of luck. The first list is the British Top 100 and I’ve bolded the foods that I’VE eaten and crossed out ones that I’d never even remotely try. Then I did the same thing with the American Top 100. You can participate in one or both or none. Leave a comment here and let me know what you think.

Here’s what I want you to do for Omnivore’s Hundred:

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment here at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results.

Wow! I did much better with the American list. (Go figure. Me – American. Duh!)

I’ll try just about anything once. When I lived in Japan, I tried stuff where I never even knew what it was (no English translation available). Some of it was good. Some tasted like rubber. But I tried it. HOWEVER, there were a few things on these lists that I would never eat. First, I don’t like Root Beer, so the root beer float is out. That was on both lists. Second, on the British list, I had to nix Curried Goat (I’m not a fan of curry), the Whole Insects (thanks, but no thanks), and Roadkill (dispite what people think of us Southerners/Rednecks, I do NOT eat roadkill – just settin’ the record straight). Lastly, have you SEEN a geoduck? It looks too much like a giant penis for me to get past the visual. See!

Now go forth and copy and paste. Let me know if you post it cuz I’d love to see your results. Just trying to get to know my readers better. Disregard the penis looking clams. Sorry – just trying to help educate.
